The Mineralogical Collections of the Technische Universität Berlin are in a serious and grave danger : the university wants to give up all geoscientific collections.
It would help us a lot, if you could send as many protest letters as possible to the president of our university, to continue an adequate housing and care for the collections :

For various reasons I do without further details, but mention the following informations for you :
size of the collections
app. 100.000 inventorized and catalogued pieces, 200 square meters show collection, 220 square meters depot in 9 cellar rooms, big teaching collections.
225 years of Mineralogical Collections
since 1781 from the teaching collections of the „Bergakademie“ (mining school) in the times of „Friedrich der Große“ (Frederic the Great), the mineralogical museum of the „Königlich Technische Hochschule” (royal university of technology) since 1884 up to the “Technische Universität” of today.
importance of the collections
the collection belongs to the five biggest and mineralogically most important collections of Germany today more important than the financial value (millions of Euros): mineralogical, scientifical and historical value.
main fields
show collection (museum at the TU since 1884) systematic collection (Hugo STRUNZ teached here for about 30 years) mines Tsumeb/Namibia and Hagendorf/Bavaria.
service
treatment of app. 2 requests per week from all over the world mainly ;
samples for scientific work and publications ;
lending of exhibits ;
informations of all kind ;
guidances, lectures, projects, as well for schools.
